The most important thing to remember is that you are not alone! There are lots of Parents and Carers who have helped their child learn how to travel safely on their own. Here are some of the answers to their most frequently asked questions. We hope they answer some of your own queries.

Q How safe will the young person be?

A A Training from our team of trained specialists will provide the young person with skills to deal with safety issues. The young person will not travel independently until the trainer is sure they have the skills to cope.


Q How will I know they have arrived safely at school/college?

A All you will need to do is agree a method for dealing with this with the school or college.


Q What if they are bullied?

A If you have any concerns regarding bullying you should contact the school or college.


Q What if they try to travel independently and can't cope?

A If they are unable to cope with independent travel they will continue to receive assisted transport but encouraged to continue training to gain more confidence.


Q Will I lose my benefits if the young person becomes independent?

A You will need to contact the Benefits Enquiry Line on 0800 88 22 00. They provide freephone advice service for disabled people and their carers.
